Tunisia fires coach Sabri Lamouchi after 5–1 World Cup humiliation

Tunisia’s decision to sack Sabri Lamouchi after a heavy 5–1 defeat to Sweden marks a dramatic turn in what has already been a turbulent World Cup campaign for the Carthage Eagles.

Lamouchi, who had only been in charge for about five months, exits the job after just one match in the tournament, making him the third coach in World Cup history to be dismissed mid-competition — a rare and striking occurrence that underlines the pressure national teams face on the global stage.

The 5–1 loss to Sweden exposed deep defensive weaknesses and immediately triggered questions about tactical preparation and squad balance, especially for a side that arrived with expectations of competitiveness in a tough group.

His dismissal now throws Tunisia’s campaign into further uncertainty, with the federation expected to name an interim replacement quickly as they prepare for their remaining group fixtures.
