US lobbying firm moves to block Tinubu-Trump meeting at UNGA

A United States-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York L.C., has launched efforts to prevent any proposed meeting between President Bola Tinubu and United States President Donald Trump during the forthcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Washington-based firm disclosed this in a post on X while reacting to comments made by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim.

According to the firm, it has forwarded a video of Ibrahim’s remarks to senior officials in the Trump administration and plans to circulate the same material to members of the United States Congress and officials of the U.S. State Department.

The development follows Ibrahim’s claim during a television interview that President Tinubu was expected to meet President Trump on the sidelines of next month’s UN General Assembly.

Responding to the claim, the lobbying firm said it was concerned that such a meeting could be interpreted as an endorsement of Tinubu despite what it described as unresolved controversies surrounding historical court records in the United States.

“We have shared the video with senior members of President Donald Trump’s administration. In the coming days, we will also share it with members of Congress and the State Department.

“President Tinubu and his associates are attempting to convince Nigerians and the world that President Trump condones the drug trafficking allegations against Tinubu,” the firm wrote in its statement on X.

The firm did not disclose whether it had received any official response from the Trump administration or U.S. lawmakers regarding its campaign.
