Without America, there would be no Israel – Trump jabs Netanyahu

United States President, Donald Trump, has declared that Israel’s continued survival and security depend significantly on the support of the United States, amid growing tensions between his administration and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump made the remarks on Tuesday while attending the G7 Summit, where world leaders gathered to discuss major global security and economic issues.

The comments come amid reported disagreements between Washington and Tel Aviv over recent military developments in the Middle East, particularly Israel’s operations in Lebanon and ongoing efforts to sustain a fragile regional ceasefire.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the summit, Trump underscored the role played by the United States in supporting Israel politically, diplomatically and militarily.

“Without the United States, and without my leadership, there would be no Israel,” Trump reportedly said, while voicing concerns that recent Israeli military actions could undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.

The statement is widely viewed as one of Trump’s strongest public criticisms of Netanyahu since returning to office and signals growing differences between the two leaders over the handling of regional security challenges.

At the centre of the disagreement is an Israeli military strike in Lebanon, which US officials reportedly fear could escalate tensions and threaten ongoing efforts to maintain stability across the Middle East.

While reaffirming America’s commitment to Israel’s security, Trump has repeatedly advocated a diplomatic approach to resolving regional disputes, insisting that negotiations should be given greater opportunity to succeed.

The Netanyahu administration, however, has maintained that Israel retains the right to take military action against threats to its national security, particularly from armed groups operating near its northern borders.

Political analysts say the public disagreement highlights emerging strains in the traditionally strong relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv at a time of heightened regional uncertainty.

Although neither government has announced any policy changes following Trump’s remarks, the development is expected to intensify discussions over the future of US-Israel relations and efforts to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.
