39 Killed in Adamawa as survivors flee homes after deadly attacks across states

Nigeria has been plunged into renewed grief and fear following a series of coordinated violent attacks across multiple states, leaving scores dead, many abducted, and several communities displaced.

In Adamawa State, no fewer than 39 residents were killed in a late-night assault on Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

The attackers reportedly operated for hours, burning homes, destroying worship centres, and looting valuables. Survivors described the assault as relentless, forcing women, children, and the elderly to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who visited the scene, condemned the killings as “barbaric and unacceptable,” pledging intensified security operations to track down those responsible.

In Benue State, at least seven persons were killed and several others injured after suspected herdsmen launched a two-day attack on Channel One community in Logo Local Government Area. Residents said the assailants stormed the area on motorcycles, shooting indiscriminately and forcing mass displacement.

Similarly, in Plateau State, gunmen attacked Gako Village in Riyom Local Government Area, killing a pastor, his wife, and their two children in what locals described as a worsening pattern of targeted violence.

Meanwhile, in Kogi State, gunmen abducted 23 pupils and the wife of a school proprietor during an ആക്രമ on an orphanage and school facility in the Zariagi area of Lokoja. Authorities confirmed that 15 victims were later rescued following a swift response by security agencies, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining captives.

In Ondo State, a farm manager, Afolabi Ajayi, was kidnapped in Imafon community, Akure North Local Government Area. Police say tactical teams have been deployed to comb surrounding forests in a bid to rescue the victim and apprehend the kidnappers.

The spate of violence underscores growing insecurity across rural communities, with analysts warning that coordinated attacks spanning multiple states signal deeper systemic challenges.

Amid the crisis, calls have intensified for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities, improved intelligence gathering, and decisive military action to curb the escalating threats to lives and livelihoods across the country.
