ADC adopts ex-INEC commissioner Geidam as consensus candidate in Yobe
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yobe State has adopted Kassim Gana Geidam as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The decision was announced in a statement signed by the party’s State Secretary, Mamu Alhaji Muhammad, and issued on Friday in Damaturu.
According to the statement, Geidam emerged after extensive consultations with party stakeholders and governorship aspirants as part of efforts to strengthen internal unity ahead of the elections.
The party commended other aspirants who stepped down in support of the consensus arrangement, describing their decision as an act of loyalty, sacrifice, and commitment to the progress and cohesion of the party.
It described Geidam as an experienced administrator, legal practitioner, and technocrat with a long record of public service and leadership roles.
He previously served as Resident Electoral Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, pioneer General Manager of Yobe Line, and first Chairman of Yusufari Local Government Area.
The statement also noted his involvement as a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee at the 1994 National Constitutional Conference, which contributed to the 1999 Constitution.
Beyond public service, the party highlighted his banking career, where he held senior positions including Head of Legal Department, Regional Director, and Group Head at Habib Nigeria Bank Limited.
The ADC further described Geidam as a unifying figure known for promoting inclusivity across ethnic and tribal lines, adding that he is “humble, accessible, and committed to inclusive governance.”
The party called on members, supporters, and residents of Yobe State to rally behind his candidacy as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
