UNICAL suspends admission into Medicine, Medical Laboratory Science, Dentistry
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended admissions into Medicine and Surgery, Medical Laboratory Science, and Dentistry for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Chukwuka Icha, and made available to journalists in Calabar on Friday through the institution’s Public Relations Unit.
According to the statement, no new students will be admitted into the three programmes during the forthcoming academic session.
The university advised all candidates who selected UNICAL as their first-choice institution for any of the affected courses to immediately visit the nearest Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office to process a change of institution.
It added that the deadline for completing the change of institution is the end of July 2026.
The management noted that UNICAL is not the only institution affected by the development, disclosing that three other universities are also facing similar restrictions.
Although the university did not state the reason for the suspension, it urged prospective students and members of the public to rely only on official information regarding the development.
The institution also warned candidates against misinformation and unverified reports circulating on social media about the admission suspension.
It advised applicants to monitor official updates from both UNICAL and JAMB on the admission process and urged affected candidates to act promptly to avoid missing the deadline for changing their institution of choice.
