Chelsea humiliate Barcelona as Man City, Galatasaray fall in other UCL fixtures
Chelsea hammered a 10-man Barcelona 3-0 in their UEFA Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
An own goal from Jules Kounde, followed by strikes from Estevao Willian and Liam Delap, secured a dominant win for the Blues over the Spanish giants.
The match build-up was filled with comparisons between Estevao and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who was playing in England for the first time.
But it was the Chelsea teenager who stole the spotlight, with Stamford Bridge mocking Yamal as the lesser talent on the night.
Enzo Maresca’s side consistently exploited Barcelona’s high defensive line and even had two goals ruled out for offside within the opening 20 minutes.
Seven minutes later, Barcelona gifted Chelsea the opener. Marc Cucurella sent a cross into the box, and after a scramble, Kounde accidentally pushed the ball into his own net.
Chelsea doubled the advantage 10 minutes after the restart. Estevao dribbled past Pau Cubarsi, brushed off Alejandro Balde and smashed the ball past Joan García.
The third arrived in the 73rd minute when Enzo Fernández set up Delap, who finished calmly after another break behind Barcelona’s high line.
In other Champions League fixtures, Manchester City lost 2-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen, with Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrik Schick scoring. Marseille beat Newcastle United 2-1, while Galatasaray lost at home to Union Saint-Gilloise. Napoli claimed a 2-0 win over Qarabag, and Dortmund thrashed Villarreal 4-0.
