Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has criticised former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi amid the ongoing controversy over the state’s debt and financial records.

“I see some suggestions that everyone is ‘obsessed’ about Peter Obi because we are always talking about him. I am sorry, but they miss the point. When someone lies per second, you also have to fact-check him per second,” Keyamo wrote.
He further claimed that Obi “got away with the lies in 2023,” but said Nigerians would scrutinise his claims more closely this time.
“Therefore, to put it simply, the amount of time we talk about Peter Obi is directly proportional to the amount of lies he tells,” he added.
Keyamo’s comments come amid a fresh dispute between Obi and the Anambra State Government over the financial obligations allegedly inherited from his administration.
The Soludo administration says eight external loans associated with projects undertaken during or inherited by Obi’s administration had an outstanding balance of $92.35 million, which it valued at about N127.37 billion as of June 30, 2026.
Obi has rejected the claims and released a handover document from 2014, maintaining that he left office without outstanding salary, pension, gratuity or contractor obligations.
The debt controversy has now triggered competing claims from both sides, with the documents and financial records at the centre of the dispute.
