Bandits defy peace deal, attack Katsina community, kill residents
Several communities in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State have come under attack by bandits, leading to the death and injury of residents, while others were abducted.
The incident was disclosed on Tuesday by security analyst and crisis journalist, Bakatsine, in a post on his X handle.
According to the report, the attacks occurred on Monday night in Unguwar Alhaji Barau, Gidan Dan Mai-gizo and Gidan Hazo communities, all located in Na’alma Ward of the local government area.
Bakatsine wrote, “SAD NEWS: Last night, bandits stormed Unguwar Alh. Barau, Gidan Dan Mai-gizo and Gidan Hazo communities in Na’alma Ward, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State. They killed and injured several people, and also abducted some residents during the attacks.”
“What is the current status of the recent peace deal reportedly reached with bandits by Malumfashi LGA leaders, and why did this attack still occur within Malumfashi LGA territory?” Bakatsine wrote.
Meanwhile, Very Nigerian gathered that the latest attack has renewed concerns over the recurring collapse of peace agreements between armed bandits and community leaders in Katsina State.
Residents said it has become a repeated pattern for bandits to enter into peace talks with local leaders, only to later breach the agreements and launch fresh attacks on affected communities.
The situation, residents noted, has heightened fear and uncertainty, with many questioning the effectiveness of such peace deals in guaranteeing security.
The affected communities have therefore called on the Katsina State Government and security agencies to intervene decisively and implement lasting measures to restore peace and protect lives and property in the area.
