The Borno State Police Command has announced a temporary ban on tricycle (Keke Napep) movement from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, to coincide with Eid El-Fitr celebrations.

The restriction will cover Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and parts of Jere Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Keneth Daso said the measure is aimed at preventing security threats amid rising attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP and recent suicide bombings.

The command emphasized that the move is intended to ensure a peaceful and safe Sallah celebration for residents.

“The restriction is intended to enhance security coordination, ease crowd management, and prevent any potential threats,” the statement read. Residents were urged to comply strictly and observe Eid prayers at grounds nearest to their homes to minimize movement and avoid overcrowding.

The police said personnel, in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to prayer grounds, markets, youotor parks, and other vulnerable locations for crowd control, traffic management, and general surveillance.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams will also screen attendees at major gatherings.

Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Abdulmajid directed all area commanders, divisional officers, and tactical units to intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations throughout the festive period while respecting human rights.

The Command reminded the public to stay vigilant, celebrate responsibly, and report suspicious activity. Emergency contacts are 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
