Abia Senator Akobundu resigns from PDP, cites lingering crisis
Senator Austin Akobundu, who represents Abia Central Senatorial District, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s prolonged internal crisis for his decision.
In a letter titled “Notice of Formal Resignation” addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Oloko, Akobundu said his resignation takes immediate effect.
The senator thanked the party for the opportunities given to him to serve both the PDP and the country, describing his time in the party as a period of mutual cooperation and service.
However, he said his decision to leave was influenced by the persistent and unresolved challenges facing the party, which he noted had continued for a long time without a clear solution.
“At this time of our nation’s political evolution, the sad and seemingly intractable crises that have engulfed the Party for so long, and after wide consultations with my associates and supporters, it has become pertinent that I take the very painful but necessary decision to resign my membership of the party,” he wrote.
Senator Akobundu concluded by wishing the PDP well in its future endeavors, emphasizing that his decision was guided by both principle and careful reflection.
