APC disqualifies over 60 Fubara-loyal aspirants in Rivers Assembly primaries
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified dozens of aspirants linked to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from participating in its 2027 State House of Assembly primaries, in a development that has further intensified political tensions within the state chapter of the party.
According to the party’s official screening list, more than 60 aspirants were not cleared to contest across various constituencies in Rivers State, with many of those affected believed to be loyalists of Governor Fubara and members of his political structure amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the state.
Among those disqualified are Berebupakabo Isaac Sekibo, Tamunodiepriye Fubara, Goodluck Ohaka, Tonye Garrick Tom-George, Prince Emukighro Fubara, and Tamunobaraiba George.
The list shows that aspirants from constituencies including Okrika, Khana, Omuma, Ahoada East, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Andoni, and Akuku-Toru were also affected by the screening outcome.
Meanwhile, the APC cleared 33 aspirants to proceed in the race. Notably, several of those approved are said to be allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, including Maol Dumle, Tonye Smart Adoki, Kenneth Minimah, Justina Aniton Okorji, and Arnold O. Davids.
The development comes just days after similar screening decisions reportedly affected several Fubara-aligned aspirants in the party’s Senate and House of Representatives primaries in Rivers State, deepening speculation of an internal power struggle within the state chapter of the APC.
