APC Senatorial aspirant Daniel Onjeh dumps Tinubu, Alia, declares support for Peter Obi
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Daniel Onjeh, an aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket in Benue South, has withdrawn his support for President Bola Tinubu and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Onjeh announced his decision on Thursday after sharing footage of his recent meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also declared his support for Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, describing himself as “humbly Obidient.”
In a post accompanying the footage, Onjeh said his principles had been misunderstood by APC leaders, adding that he had now embraced the Obidient movement.
“They misconstrued my principles as stubbornness. Now, I’m humbly Obidient. You go where you’re valued,” he wrote.
Although Onjeh did not state the specific reason for his decision, his defection comes months after he failed to secure the APC senatorial ticket ahead of the January election.
Onjeh had previously been a prominent supporter of President Tinubu and Governor Alia before the APC senatorial primary held in May 2026.
His latest move adds to the series of political realignments taking place across the country ahead of the 2027 elections, as politicians continue to shift allegiance and opposition parties intensify efforts to build a stronger coalition against the ruling APC.
