Defection wave hits APC, LP in Benue as 10,000 voters join PDP
In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, no fewer than 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other parties have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The massive defection wave, which swept through the three districts of Owukpa, Orokam and Otukpa, saw thousands publicly collapsing their party structures into the PDP during a rally led by Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, and the Benue State PDP Chairman, Ezekiel Adaji.
One of the notable defectors was the Labour Party Women Leader in Ogbadibo, Mrs. Agnes Apeh, alongside CSP Onah Amedu (rtd), Abel Akoh of AA Dominion, and several LP and ADC chieftains who announced their exit from their former parties.
The defectors cited Senator Moro’s “people-oriented leadership, visible projects and impactful representation” as the major motivation behind their decision.
Speaking on behalf of the group, retired Chief Superintendent of Police, Onah Amedu, said Senator Moro’s track record “speaks for itself.”
“We have seen what Senator Abba Moro has done and what he continues to do for our people.”
“His projects and legislative contributions are visible to both the young and the old.”
“We are joining hands with him to move Ogbadibo forward and ensure his return to the Senate in 2027,” Amedu stated.
In a unanimous declaration, the people of Ogbadibo passed a vote of confidence on Senator Moro and endorsed him as their unopposed candidate for the 2027 Benue South Senatorial election.
Responding, Senator Moro welcomed the defectors, describing their move as “a right decision in the right direction,” and assured them of equal opportunity and fair treatment within the PDP.
He also dismissed rumours of his possible defection to the APC, insisting he remained firmly grounded in the PDP.
The rally had a long list of party leaders in attendance, including:
Rt. Hon. Adaji Ezekiel, Hon. Solomon Onah, Hon. Mrs. Owakoyi Igharuwa, Hon. Mrs. Alice Albert, Egli Ahubi Johnson, Edor Ogbole, Gabriel Olofu, Godwin Emmanuel Oyiwona, Comr. Austin Ochiga, Mrs. Regina Lawani, and several others.
The event further cemented Senator Moro’s dominance in Benue South politics and signalled a significant shift in the political atmosphere of Ogbadibo ahead of the next election cycle.
