Drama at Ooni’s Ceremony as Remi Tinubu ask Gov Adeleke to stop singing
A brief but dramatic exchange unfolded on Sunday at the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, when Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, cautioned Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, over his prolonged singing while delivering his goodwill message.
The governor had mounted the podium to honour the monarch and congratulate the First Lady on her newly conferred chieftaincy title, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua.
But rather than dive straight into his remarks, Adeleke, famously known nationwide as the “Dancing Governor”, broke into a spirited chant, drawing laughter and light amusement from guests inside the hall.
In the viral clip circulating online, Mrs. Tinubu stepped toward the podium moments after receiving her title, gently gesturing to the governor to proceed with his formal address.
“Go ahead,” she whispered, attempting to guide the event back to its official programme.
However, as she returned to her seat and Adeleke resumed singing, the First Lady turned back with a firmer tone.
“Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” she said, adding that the governor had five minutes to wrap up his remarks.
The comment stirred murmurs and pockets of laughter across the venue, with many guests caught off guard by the light but pointed reprimand.
While some Nigerians on social media have dismissed the encounter as a harmless, playful moment, others described it as a reminder of the need for decorum at royal ceremonies.
Governor Adeleke eventually completed his remarks and continued with the event’s programme.
As of Monday morning, neither the Osun State Government nor the First Lady’s office has issued an official statement beyond what was seen in the video.
