Eddie Howe steps down as Newcastle manager
Eddie Howe has stepped down as manager of Newcastle United after holding discussions with the club’s leadership.
His departure comes after a difficult summer for the Magpies, who have seen several key players leave the squad.
Midfielder Sandro Tonali has completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur, while winger Anthony Gordon has joined Spanish giants Barcelona.
The exits of two of the club’s top performers have marked a significant period of change at Newcastle, with Howe now becoming the latest high-profile figure to depart.
And there is uncertainty over their captain Bruno Guimaraes, who is being heavily linked with Arsenal.
According to Sky Sports, those sales have played a factor in Howe’s decision, amid concerns about what the squad will look like at the start of the new campaign.
Newcastle have already signed 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £42m, 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for £23m and 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £18.5m.
However, they have missed out on Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who decided to move to Aston Villa.
Newcastle have already started the process to find Howe’s successor with a number of names on the list of sporting director Ross Wilson and CEO David Hopkinson.
