FG inaugurates Veterinary Hospital in Adamawa
The Federal Government has inaugurated a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, marking another milestone under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
The facility is the seventh of its kind in the country, following similar centres already established in Sokoto, Enugu, Niger, Ondo, Edo, and Borno states.
According to officials, an additional 14 veterinary hospitals are currently at various stages of completion across Nigeria, all aimed at boosting livestock health, improving food security, and supporting animal farmers under the present administration.
The Yola facility, funded by the World Bank through the L-PRES under the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, was inaugurated by the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Maiha.
Maiha described the new hospital as a significant milestone in Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the livestock sector.
He said President Bola Tinubu’s decision to establish the livestock ministry reflects a renewed national commitment to modernizing animal health and production systems.
“We are witnessing the beginning of a new era in livestock development. There is no more neglect,” the minister declared, urging veterinary professionals to utilize the new Yola hospital effectively for improved service delivery.
The national coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, noted that the facility is equipped with modern technologies aimed at reducing livestock mortality, increasing productivity and providing economic benefits for pastoralists and commercial livestock producers.
