Tinubu welcomes rescue of 24 Kebbi Schoolgirls, vows to protect vulnerable areas
President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the safe release of 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, on 17 November.
The girls were seized at dawn on the day a military detachment reportedly left the school premises.
Their release comes amid a string of similar attacks, including the abductions of 38 students in Eruku, Kwara State, who were freed on Sunday, and over 300 students taken from a Catholic school in Papiri, Niger State, of whom 50 have escaped.
In a statement on Tuesday, Tinubu praised security agencies for their efforts in securing the freedom of the girls.
He urged intensified operations to rescue remaining students still in captivity.
“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for,” said Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesperson, quoting Tinubu.
“We must urgently deploy more security personnel to vulnerable areas to prevent further kidnappings.”
“My administration will provide all necessary support to achieve this.”
