Identity, States of all 68 nominated Ambassadors ( Full List )
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted a comprehensive list of 68 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, marking one of the most extensive diplomatic reshuffles since the beginning of his administration.
Very Nigerian reports that the letter conveying the nominations was read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The nominees comprise 34 career diplomats, 31 non-career appointees, and three individuals earlier screened and cleared by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The President is requesting an expedited confirmation process to enable Nigeria to reconstitute its embassies and strengthen representation across key global missions.
According to the communication, the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture, deepen international partnerships, and ensure strategic coverage in global capitals.
Akpabio referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, mandating it to complete the screening and submit its report within one week.
High-Profile Names on the List
The non-career nominees include several familiar figures within Nigeria’s political and security circles. Among them are:
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), former Chief of Naval Staff and Sole Administrator of Rivers State
Ita Enang, former presidential aide
Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State
Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd.), former Minister of Interior and ex–Chief of Army Staff
Olufemi Pedro, former Deputy Governor of Lagos
Abbasi Brahma, former Edo lawmaker
Reno Omokri, author and political commentator
Senator Jimoh Ibrahim
Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation
The 34 career nominees represent all states of the federation and the FCT, drawn from serving foreign service officers recommended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
