Kaduna Gov vows swift return of Kurmin Wali kidnap victims, promises security, development

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has assured residents of Kurmin Wali village that his administration, in partnership with security agencies, is working to ensure the safe and speedy return of all those abducted during last Sunday’s attack.

The governor made the pledge on Wednesday while leading a delegation of senior government officials and security chiefs to console the community. He emphasised that the number of abductees is irrelevant, stressing that the government’s foremost duty is to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens.

“In the last two days, we have been collaborating with the military, the DSS, the police, and the Office of the National Security Adviser to secure the quick recovery of our people kidnapped in this community,” Sani said.

The governor condemned attempts by political actors to exploit the incident for personal gain. “This is about the sanctity of human life and dignity, not numbers or politics. We will go to any length, working with security agencies, to ensure the prompt return of our people,” he added.

Sani also promised to cover the medical expenses of those injured in the attack and disclosed plans to engage the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, to establish a military base in Kurmin Wali, given the village’s proximity to known bandit hideouts.

While noting that security along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway has improved, the governor said bandits have shifted to hinterland areas. “Kurmin Wali is close to Rijana, one of the country’s epicentres of banditry,” he said.

He further announced plans to construct an access road linking the community to the highway and directed the Commissioner of Public Works to conduct necessary assessments before the project commences. A primary healthcare centre will also be built in the village to improve local services.

Governor Sani praised the community for their support and trust in his administration. “We protect everyone, regardless of religion or ethnicity. The warm reception we received today, even from those mourning, reflects their confidence in our inclusive government,” he said.

In his welcome address, Agwam Kufana, Chief Dauda Titus, recalled receiving a distress call about the attack while at church on Sunday. He expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and urged the state government to improve road access to Kurmin Wali and provide other social amenities.

Samuel Karo, National President of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), also commended Governor Sani’s prompt intervention.

“You are the first governor to visit this community in such circumstances. Your leadership is pragmatic, and your administration’s focus on the abductees’ rescue has been commendable,” he said.

Karo added that the people stand behind the governor and rejected attempts by political opponents to politicise the tragedy.
