Laporta secures another term as Barcelona President
Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president of Barcelona, securing more than 68% of the votes and a new five-year term starting July 1, 2026.
His rival, Victor Font, received nearly 30% of the votes, while the rest were void or invalid.
According to BBC Sport on Monday, this marks Laporta’s second consecutive term and his fourth overall as Barcelona president. He previously led the club from 2003 to 2010, a period remembered for appointing Pep Guardiola as manager.
Following his victory, the 63-year-old declared, “It makes us unstoppable. No one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead.”
Laporta also pledged to strengthen the first team and complete the Nou Camp redevelopment, emphasising that the club and its members would defend Barcelona “against everything and everyone.”
The election saw a turnout of 42.34%, with almost 48,500 members casting votes.
Barcelona have faced financial difficulties in recent years but enjoyed a successful season, claiming a domestic treble and leading Real Madrid by four points in La Liga. The club now prepares for the Champions League last-16 second leg against Newcastle United, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
