Many students feared Kidnapped as terrorists attack Borno community school minutes after troop withdrawal
An unspecified number of pupils are feared abducted after suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists invaded Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday morning.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day when armed men stormed the school on motorcycles in Mussa village, a remote community bordering the Sambisa Forest, a known insurgent hideout.
Sources said the attackers struck barely 10 to 15 minutes after troops had left the area, raising concerns that the school may have been under surveillance prior to the assault.
A resident, Solomon Mussa, raised alarm on social media, calling for prayers over the incident and reporting that schoolchildren were affected.
Confirming the attack, the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Askira, said the gunmen invaded both the primary and junior secondary schools in the village.
He noted that many pupils fled into surrounding bushes for safety, although the exact number of those abducted remains unclear.
According to him, the timing of the attack shortly after the withdrawal of troops suggests that the assailants were monitoring security movements before striking.
Authorities are yet to confirm the full extent of casualties or abductions as investigations continue, while police spokesperson ASP Kenneth Daso had not responded to enquiries at the time of filing this report.
