N9bn Money laundering case: Ex-AGF Malami, son to remain in Abuja prison till Jan 7
Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, will remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until January 7, when the court will rule on their bail applications.
Justice Emeka Nwite gave the order on Friday after listening to arguments from lawyers for the defence and the prosecution on the bail requests filed by Malami and his son.
The two are standing trial over an alleged N9 billion money laundering charge brought against them by the Federal Government.
The judge directed that Malami, his son and one Hajia Bashir Asabe, a staff member of Ramadiya Property Limited and a co-defendant in the case, should be remanded in prison custody pending the ruling on their bail applications.
Justice Nwite said the ruling on the bail requests would be delivered on January 7.
Justice Emeka Nwite announced that he had several other matters to rule upon as a vacation judge, hence, will not be able to deliver the ruling until the date.
Joseph Daudu, SAN, argued the bail applications for the three defendants while Emmanuel Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, opposed the motion on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Malami and his co-defendants had pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on behalf of the Federal Government.
