Over 10.1 million Nigerians complete voter registration as INEC wraps up Phase III of CVR

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 3,867,997 Nigerians successfully completed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at the end of Phase III, Week Eleven, which concluded on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The latest figures bring the cumulative number of completed registrations across the three phases of the exercise to 10,188,755.

According to INEC, 2,572,054 Nigerians completed registration during Phase I, while 3,748,704 were registered in Phase II. Combined with the 3,867,997 recorded in Phase III, the total now stands at 10,188,755 prospective voters.

Nigeria currently has more than 93 million registered voters, but INEC said it will carry out a de-duplication exercise to remove multiple registrations before adding the verified figures to the National Register of Voters.

An infographic released by the commission on Wednesday showed that 2,697,863 people completed the registration process through physical registration centres, while 1,170,134 completed registration online before fulfilling the required physical verification.

The figures indicate that physical registration accounted for nearly 70 per cent of all completed registrations.

Kano leads registrations

A breakdown by states showed that Kano State recorded the highest number of completed registrations with 330,906, representing 8.55 per cent of the national total.

Lagos State followed with 181,254 registrations (4.69 per cent), while Delta State ranked third with 166,895 (4.31 per cent).

At the lower end of the registration chart, Ekiti State recorded 2,276 completed registrations, while Ondo State had 23,824. Plateau State recorded 41,993, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) registered 56,285 voters.

INEC explained that Osun State recorded no registrations during the period because the CVR exercise was suspended ahead of the August 15 governorship election, in accordance with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The commission said the figures represent completed online and physical registrations nationwide as it continues efforts to expand voter participation ahead of the 2027 general election.
