Mohamed Salah delivered an impressive performance, scoring from the penalty spot and providing an assist as Trabzonspor defeated Hearts 2-0 in the UEFA Conference League.

According to BBC Sport on Thursday, the Liverpool legend gave the Turkish side the lead in the first half with a successful penalty before setting up Franculino Dju for a brilliant second goal after the break.

The victory gave Trabzonspor a comfortable win, while Hearts were left to contend with another injury setback ahead of the encounter.

The Scottish side were already dealing with injuries to several key first-team players before full-back Harry Milne was ruled out after sustaining an injury during training on the eve of the match.

His absence forced Hearts to make changes to their defensive line, with attacker Rogers Mato deployed at left-back as the team struggled to cope with their growing injury concerns.

Defender Christian Borchgrevink was also forced off through injury just before half-time, further reducing head coach Wouter Vrancken’s options.

Coming into the game following a heavy 7-1 defeat to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, Hearts were under pressure to respond positively.

The hosts had an early opportunity to take the lead when Malachi Fagan-Walcott headed against the post from a promising position.

However, Trabzonspor gradually gained control of the contest. After having two penalty appeals turned down, including one for a close offside in the build-up, the visitors were eventually awarded a spot-kick.

Salah stepped up and calmly sent his penalty down the middle of the goal past goalkeeper Beau Reus to give Trabzonspor the lead.

Franculino, who had won the penalty after being brought down by Tomas Magnusson, doubled the advantage shortly before the hour mark. The forward exchanged a well-timed one-two with Salah before curling a superb finish into the far corner.

The second goal effectively ended Hearts’ hopes of mounting a comeback and left them still searching for their first win in the competition.

Josh McPake later fired narrowly wide as the game gradually lost intensity, while Trabzonspor’s Sidny Lopes Cabral was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge on Sabah Kerjota.

Despite the defeat, Hearts continued to press diligently and showed greater resilience and determination as they sought to recover from their damaging loss to Celtic.

Trabzonspor, meanwhile, will take confidence from an efficient performance inspired by Salah, whose goal and assist proved decisive in securing all three points.
