Super Eagles clinch Antalya Four-Nation tournament After 2-2 draw with Jordan
The Super Eagles secured victory in the four-nation invitational friendly tournament in Antalya, Turkey, despite a 2-2 draw with Jordan national football team on Tuesday.
Nigeria recovered from an early strike by Mousa Tamari in the 17th minute, responding with goals from Simon and Emmanuel Fernandez to claim the lead. Mohammad Al-Daoud’s late equalizer could not prevent the Eagles from finishing atop the standings, even after being reduced to ten men in the closing stages.
The Super Eagles amassed four points from one win and one draw, finishing one point ahead of second-placed Iran to lift the tournament trophy.
Jordan, gearing up for their 2026 World Cup debut, opened the scoring from a well-taken free-kick by Tamari, which Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho could only deflect into the net.
Chelle’s side responded with Simon finishing Ademola Lookman’s blocked shot to equalize in the 25th minute. Fernandez then completed the comeback by slotting home Bright Osayi-Samuel’s deep cross, marking his first international goal on his full Eagles debut.
Adeleye Adebayo replaced an injured Uzoho, conceding Jordan’s late equalizer. Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi was shown a red card for retaliation, but the team held on to secure a point.
The stalemate is the first ever between the two nations, continuing Nigeria’s strong record against Middle Eastern teams in Turkey. This triumph also marks the Super Eagles’ second friendly tournament win in 10 months, following the 2025 Unity Cup victory in London last May.
Under Eric Chelle, Nigeria has extended its unbeaten run to seven matches in regulation time, maintaining momentum ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
