2027: ‘We’ll retaliate, won’t allow anyone to ridicule Tinubu’ — Jibrin warns NDC
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumini Jibrin, has warned that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State will retaliate against any attack or provocation directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the state governor or the party.
Jibrin made the statement on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
His comments followed reports that supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano burned Tinubu’s signature cap and the APC broom, symbols associated with the President and the ruling party.
APC supporters reportedly responded by burning Kwankwansiya caps associated with former Kano State Governor and NDC leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Jibrin said APC supporters in the state would not tolerate what he described as attempts to ridicule Tinubu, Governor Abba Yusuf or the party.
“When somebody comes with a knife and he’s trying to cut off my neck, what do you want me to do? To hold it and push it back,” he said.
The lawmaker insisted that APC supporters do not deliberately seek confrontation in Kano, claiming that the party’s supporters have focused on campaigning rather than abusing their political opponents.
“We don’t create trouble in Kano. We don’t look for trouble. All we do is that we just campaign. We’re minding our business. We don’t throw abuses at them,” he said.
Jibrin, however, said the APC would respond whenever its symbols or political leaders were targeted.
“We will retaliate because we will not allow anybody to ridicule our president or our governor or our party. We will never allow that. Never, we will not,” he said.
He described the response as an act of self-defence, questioning why APC supporters should remain passive when their political symbols were being attacked.
“So, what do you think we should do? We should allow them to continue to burn our caps?” he asked.
“In politics, that is self-defence. Show me one place where we looked for trouble,” Jibrin added.
