Abia 2027: Stakeholders purchase APC governorship forms for Benjamin Kalu

A coalition of political stakeholders in Abia State has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial expression of interest and nomination forms for Benjamin Kalu, urging him to join the state’s 2027 governorship race.

The forms were presented to the Deputy Speaker in Abuja on Saturday, with the delegation describing the move as a recognition of his legislative performance and leadership credentials at the national level.

Leading the group, James Uko-Kalu said Kalu has distinguished himself as a unifying figure whose contributions in the National Assembly have translated into tangible development.

“We are here because we recognise the invaluable contributions the deputy speaker has made to Nigeria’s legislative process,” he said. “From 2019 to date, we have followed his work closely and can attest to his outstanding performance.”

Responding, Kalu expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a significant show of confidence in his leadership. However, he stopped short of declaring his intention to run, stating that he would consult widely before making a final decision.

According to him, the call to contest aligns with the broader vision of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on federalism and subnational development.

“The purchase of this form is clearly a call for me to step forward,” Kalu said. “I have received it with gratitude, and within the next one or two days, after due consultations, I will make my position known.”

He added that the future of the APC in Abia would depend on unity and commitment among party members, stressing the need for collective effort to reposition the state politically and economically.

The development signals early political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Abia State, with Kalu’s potential entry expected to reshape the dynamics within the APC.
