Let Americans take over Mandara Mountains to fight Boko Haram — Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has called for the establishment of a United States military presence in Borno State, arguing that such a move could significantly aid efforts to combat Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East.

Ndume made the call during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he addressed the persistent security challenges confronting the region.

The lawmaker specifically urged the United States to establish a base around the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area, describing the location as strategically important for monitoring insurgent movements and operations around the Sambisa Forest and surrounding areas.

“I am in full support. In fact, I am appealing. Let the Americans go to Gwoza and take over the Mandara Mountains, please. It will go a long way to cut down on insecurity,” Ndume said.

According to him, the mountainous terrain offers a critical vantage point that could help security forces track and disrupt the activities of insurgent groups operating across parts of Borno State.

Ndume also stressed that the Nigerian military requires greater support, resources and manpower to effectively tackle terrorism and other security threats in the region.

“You can’t do that without a team and enough boots on the ground. The Nigerian Army needs the resources,” he added.

The senator maintained that strengthening military operations around the Mandara Mountains, the Sambisa Forest and neighbouring communities would help restrict insurgent movement, disrupt supply routes and improve security for residents affected by years of conflict.
