Six people have been killed in a road accident along the Yola-Girei Road in Adamawa State.

The crash occurred on Friday, with the Adamawa State Police Command confirming the deaths.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said preliminary investigations showed that six people lost their lives in the accident.

The incident has renewed concerns over safety on the busy road, which links Yola and Girei.

“The victims were rushed to a hospital where they were confirmed dead.

“Police operatives from Girei Divisional Headquarters, Federal Housing and the Central Motor Traffic Division were immediately mobilised to the scene to evacuate the victims and restore the normal flow of traffic.”

The latest incident has added to growing concerns over the number of crashes occurring along the route.

Very Nigerian gathered that Friday’s accident was the fourth crash recorded on the Yola-Girei Road in less than one month, with more than 10 people reportedly losing their lives in the separate incidents.

The recurring accidents have put the safety of motorists and other road users on the route under renewed scrutiny.

Reacting to the latest tragedy, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, sympathised with the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of their souls.

He also urged motorists to exercise caution while using the road and comply with traffic regulations.

The police commissioner specifically warned drivers against overspeeding and other dangerous driving practices that could put the lives of other road users at risk.

As authorities continue to manage the aftermath of the latest crash, the repeated loss of lives along the Yola-Girei Road is renewing calls for greater caution and stronger measures to prevent further tragedies.
