Bandits have attacked Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing five residents and abducting several others.

The attack happened despite a security alert issued by the Sokoto State Police Command after receiving intelligence about a planned attack by suspected bandits in Kebbe LGA.

According to Crisis Reporter in the North-West, Bakastine, who disclosed the incident in a post on his X handle on Friday, the attackers reportedly spent several hours in the community during the invasion.

He said the prolonged attack left residents with no safe place to hide as the bandits moved through the community.

The latest incident has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in parts of Sokoto State, particularly communities facing repeated attacks by armed groups.

Bakastine reported that five residents were killed and four others injured, while a large number of cattle were rustled.

He further reported that the bandits killed one person in Dukura and another in Jabga, both in Girkau Ward.

Two other people were injured during the attack, while a vigilante was also abducted and his locally made gun taken by the attackers.

Very Nigerian had earlier reported that suspected bandits demanded a N40 million levy from residents of Kebbe town and threatened to attack the community if the demand was not met.

The fresh attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in Kebbe LGA amid renewed bandit activities in the area.
