‘Obi Cannot Win in 2027’ — Umahi tells South-East Leaders, says the more we educate our people, the less votes he’d get

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, cannot win the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi also urged South-East leaders to educate residents of the region on what he described as the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that greater awareness of the President’s activities would reduce support for Obi.

Naija News reported that the minister made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on its nationwide tour of federal roads.

Umahi called on South-East leaders to be vocal in communicating Tinubu’s policies and projects to the Igbo people ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The more we educate our people, the less votes Peter Obi will get. Peter Obi cannot win in 2027,” he said.

The minister urged leaders in the region to speak openly about what Tinubu had done and was doing for the South-East.

“It is important for the leaders of the South-East to be bold, vocal and speak to our people, the Igbos, about what President Tinubu has done and is doing for the Igbos,” he added.

Umahi also praised Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid, urging Nigerians to refrain from insulting Igbo leaders who support the President.

“I support the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for his boldness in supporting the President. People should stop insulting supporters of the President; people should be allowed to support him,” he said.

Umahi’s remarks come amid political realignments and growing debate over the 2027 presidential election, with political actors canvassing support for different candidates and parties.
