Food security, power, social investment top agenda as APC Govs meet in Lagos
Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have renewed their backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda after a two-day strategic retreat in Lagos.
The meeting, which began on Friday and ended on Saturday, was convened by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the session, Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), said the gathering provided an avenue for the governors to harmonise state-level priorities with national economic reforms and strengthen their commitment to people-focused governance.
According to the forum, every reform undertaken by government, at federal or state level, must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians across all social groups.
The governors commended President Tinubu for efforts aimed at stabilising the economy, addressing security concerns, and driving broad-based growth.
They noted ongoing interventions in food security, energy supply, transport, infrastructure, social investment programmes and enterprise support initiatives.
“The Forum took note of federal efforts in food security, power sector reforms, transport and infrastructure upgrades, social protection, and support for productive enterprises,” the communiqué read.
“It pledged to align state policies to ensure citizens in every ward and community benefit fully from these reforms.”
While acknowledging the rising cost of living and hardship associated with macroeconomic adjustments, the governors applauded Nigerians for their resilience and patience.
They resolved to deepen state-level interventions in food production and distribution, support for SMEs, youth employment programmes, social safety nets for vulnerable groups, and targeted relief for workers and low-income households.
The PGF also reviewed the national security landscape and commended the improved synergy among security agencies.
The forum praised the sacrifices of security personnel and volunteer groups battling crime in various communities.
The governors pledged to strengthen community-based security structures across APC-controlled states, ramp up intelligence gathering, enhance conflict prevention efforts and scale up support for victims of violence or disasters.
The forum further emphasised the importance of national unity, urging leaders at all levels to promote tolerance, moderation and interfaith harmony, while isolating criminals and discouraging hate speech.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the APC, the governors pledged to continue supporting the party’s leadership and internal reform process.
They also restated full support for President Tinubu’s policy agenda and vowed to deliver development-driven governance across all APC states.
The forum encouraged citizens to remain hopeful and go about their normal activities without fear, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s long-term stability and prosperity.
