Eight Kano wedding guests freed after abduction
Troops from 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued eight out of ten people abducted during a wedding ceremony on Wednesday in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
A reliable source at Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that an unknown number of gunmen, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the event and forcibly took the victims.
According to the source, troops stationed at an ambush point along the Yankwada River quickly moved to the area after receiving the distress call. They engaged the fleeing assailants at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State, leading to the rescue of most of the victims.
According to him, troops pursued the bandits up to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before contact was broken.
”During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were successfully rescued and have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track and rescue the remaining two victims.”
The sources said the operations in the general area had continued to ensure the safe return of the remaining victims and prevent further attacks. (NAN)
