‘I’m not a womaniser, I only love deeply’ – 2Baba
Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has addressed long-standing public opinions about his personal life, saying he should not be labelled a womaniser.
The award-winning singer made the remark during an interview with Voice of Nigeria shared on Wednesday, where he spoke about fame, family life and the weight of public scrutiny.
2Baba said the narrative surrounding his relationships over the years does not truly reflect who he is, stressing that he is simply a person who loves deeply.
The singer, who has remained one of Nigeria’s most celebrated artistes for decades, also reflected on how fame has shaped his life and the constant attention that comes with being in the public eye.
“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a womaniser. I like women; I’m just straightforward. But I’m a lover boy. I love hard,” 2Baba said.
Speaking on fatherhood, the artiste revealed that one of his greatest personal struggles has been balancing his music career with raising his children.
He said although he feels grateful to have eight children, he sometimes regrets not spending as much time with them as he would have wished.
He said, “I have eight kids now. I feel blessed and happy, but the sadness comes from the fact that I haven’t gotten to spend the type of time I should have spent with them collectively. It does something to me sometimes.”
Despite that, he described his children as a constant sources of pride and joy
“They’re amazing, brilliant people. I just wish I was there more. It touches me from all corners,” he said.
The singer also addressed criticism directed at his wife, Natasha, particularly claims that she is controlling or overly influential in his decisions.
According to him, such narratives are often far from reality.
“Everybody has a say in everybody’s business now. Sometimes people say very nasty things.
“You grow thick skin, but sometimes it gets to you. Reality is reality, she’s a brilliant woman, a strong woman,” he said.
2Baba also revealed that he is naturally shy and more reserved than many assume, explaining that his profession often requires him to step outside his comfort zone.
“My profession doesn’t permit me to be shy, but I’m actually a very shy person.
“Sometimes I just want to be alone and chill. Other times I want to hang out. I like nature; I have my moments,” he added.
