Libya deports 80 undocumented Nigerians
Libyan authorities have deported 80 Nigerians who were detained in various holding facilities across the country as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration and reduce congestion in detention centres.
The deportation exercise took place on Wednesday via Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli and was coordinated by Libya’s Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) in collaboration with the Nigerian Consulate.
Migrant Rescue Watch, an organization that monitors the welfare and rights of migrants in Libya, confirmed the operation in a post on X, stating that the repatriation was carried out under the directives of the Libyan Judicial Police.
“Judicial Police Dept. on orders of Public Prosecutor’s Office transferred a group of undocumented migrant females of Nigerian nationality to DCIM custody in Tripoli. All females were served with judicial deportation order and are awaiting deportation,” the organisation stated.
