Nnadozie shines, Ajibade falls short as Morocco dominates CAF 2025 awards
Super Falcons star Chiamaka Nnadozie has won the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award for the third consecutive year, reaffirming her status as one of Africa’s best at the 2025 ceremony held on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco.
Her teammate and national team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, narrowly missed out on her first Women’s Player of the Year accolade, losing to Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak.
On the men’s side, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi was crowned the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year, beating Super Eagles striker and 2023 winner Victor Osimhen, as well as Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
His victory ended Nigeria’s recent dominance of the award, previously won by Osimhen in 2023 and Ademola Lookman in 2024.
For the third year in a row, Morocco hosted the ceremony and also celebrated early wins, as Doha El Madani and U-20 World Cup champion Othmane Maamma clinched the Women’s and Men’s Young Player of the Year awards.
Madani finished ahead of Nigeria’s Shakirat Moshood, who captained the Flamingos at the U-17 World Cup held in Morocco.
The Super Falcons continued their continental dominance by winning the Women’s National Team of the Year Award again, a recognition of their historic 10th WAFCON title secured in July. They finished ahead of Ghana and Morocco.
Morocco’s U-20 team, fresh from winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, were named the Men’s National Team of the Year, with former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba presenting the award.
Nnadozie’s consistency earned her another Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award, finishing ahead of Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini.
In the men’s category, Yassine Bonou reclaimed the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year Award after losing it in 2024.
He triumphed over South Africa’s Ronwen Williams and Morocco’s Munir Mohamedi of RS Berkane.
Egyptian side Pyramids SC, winners of the CAF Champions League, were crowned Men’s Club of the Year, beating Mamelodi Sundowns and RS Berkane.
Their striker, Fiston Mayele, also won the CAF Interclub Player of the Year after scoring nine goals in the Champions League.
Cape Verde’s Bubista was named Men’s Coach of the Year after guiding his team to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification in October.
The Women’s Coach Award, which included Nigeria’s Justine Madugu among the nominees, was not presented due to the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League.
The ceremony featured vibrant performances from Awilo Longomba, Fuse ODG and Moroccan singer Douaa Lahyaoui.
The biggest moments of the night came when Chebbak and Hakimi lifted the continent’s highest individual honours, drawing loud cheers from the Moroccan crowd.
