The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has advocated for stronger bilateral ties between Nigeria and Switzerland, stressing the need for a partnership built on shared values and mutual development goals.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, disclosed this in a post on his X account on Wednesday while reflecting on his meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff. He described the discussion as productive and focused on issues vital to Nigeria’s progress.

According to Obi, their conversation examined Nigeria’s development path, with particular attention to improving education, strengthening healthcare, and tackling poverty.

He noted that these sectors remain key to achieving sustainable national growth and improving the welfare of citizens.

He commended Switzerland’s contributions to Nigeria’s development, particularly in the North-East, describing the support as invaluable.

“I expressed my gratitude for the invaluable contributions of the Swiss Confederation to Nigeria’s development, especially its support for critical economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, particularly in the North-East,” he said.

Obi added that stronger partnerships built on shared values remained essential to Nigeria’s growth.

“Building stronger partnerships founded on shared values and a commitment to human development remains essential to creating a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” he stated.
