‘Shut down our office if you can’ – Turaki-led PDP fires back at Wike
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to carry out his threat to shut down its operational office.
The challenge followed comments made by Wike during his monthly media chat earlier this week, where he questioned the legitimacy of the Turaki-led group and demanded that it operate openly if it was truly recognised within the party.
Wike had also warned that any building being used illegally for the faction’s activities in the FCT could be sealed by authorities.
Reacting to the threat, the Turaki-led camp insisted that it had the constitutional right to operate and accused the minister of attempting to intimidate opposition voices within the PDP.
The group maintained that it would continue its activities despite the warning, daring the FCT minister to carry out the proposed action.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, a former PDP deputy national publicity secretary and private principal secretary to Turaki, said the faction has a temporary building where it holds its business.
“We have been operating from an office. He knows the location; he should come there and take over the office if he can,” Abdullahi said.
“It is a temporary office, but we are meeting there and carrying out our functions.”
He warned that the escalating crisis in the party was pushing the country towards a Hobbesian state of anarchy, “where life is brutish, short, and nasty”.
Meanwhile, Ini Ememobong, spokesperson of the Turaki faction, had described Wike as delusional, saying the minister is aware that the PDP operates party accounts.
“His delusional boast of dealing with banks that will open accounts for us is delusional, as he is already aware that we are operating accounts of the party, which is why his group of friends are receiving money through private accounts,” he said.
