Super Eagles goalkeeper Obasogie suspended over match-fixing allegations
Amas Obasogie, goalkeeper of Singida Black Stars SC, has been suspended for three months pending investigation into alleged match-fixing.
The Tanzanian club announced the decision on Friday in a statement issued by the CEO’s Office and published on its official X handle.
According to the statement, the club’s disciplinary committee also suspended midfielder Khalid Aucho for three months over indiscipline and absenteeism from duty.
“The leadership of Singida Black Stars SC, through the Disciplinary Committee, has taken disciplinary action against players Khalid Aucho and Amas Obasogie as follows:
“Khalid Aucho: Punished for indiscipline and absenteeism from work, suspended for three months.
“Amas Obasogie: Suspended for three months to allow investigation into match-fixing allegations.
“The club reminds all players and staff to uphold discipline, accountability, and respect for the club,” the statement read.
Obasogie, a former Super Eagles invitee, has been a regular starter for Singida Black Stars SC since joining the club and has featured prominently in the Tanzanian Premier League.
The match-fixing allegations have not yet been substantiated publicly, and neither the club nor Tanzanian football authorities have released formal charges or evidence.
The suspension, according to the club, is precautionary and intended to allow for a full investigation. The club did not disclose the specific matches or incidents that triggered the probe.
