Tension in courtroom as Judge orders DSS to bundle out IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu
Trial Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered security operatives to bundle out the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, after he repeatedly disrupted proceedings and insisted that judgement would not be delivered in the terrorism case filed against him by the Federal Government.
The drama unfolded when Kanu loudly demanded that the judge show him where the law states that he is not entitled to file a written address in the matter.
His continued interruptions forced Justice Omotosho to halt the session temporarily while security agents escorted him out of the courtroom.
Earlier, the judge had delivered a ruling dismissing the fresh motions Kanu filed, saying they contained issues previously determined by the court.
The court also rejected his request to refer the matter to the Court of Appeal, noting that Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 prohibits a stay of proceedings in criminal trials.
Justice Omotosho further refused Kanu’s application for bail but assured that some of the issues he raised would be addressed during the delivery of judgement.
However, as the judge attempted to begin reading the verdict, Kanu again objected, insisting that the court lacked jurisdiction to proceed without accepting his written address, an interruption that led to his removal from the courtroom.
