The entry of Sanusi Maituta into the political scene is stirring fresh conversations across Zamfara State, as stakeholders assess the potential impact of his growing influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers say Maituta’s emergence comes at a time when the state is witnessing shifting alliances, defections, and intense repositioning among major actors.

His rising profile is already attracting attention from youth groups and grassroots mobilisers who view him as a potential game-changer in Zamfara’s evolving political dynamics.

Profile: Dr. Sanusi Bala Maituta

Dr. Sanusi Bala Turaki is a seasoned administrator, businessman, and philanthropist with a track record in leadership and community development.

Born on July 10, 1979, in Zamfara State, he was raised in a family that prioritised education, integrity, and public service.

He began his education at Dangaladima Primary School before proceeding to Sambo Secondary School, Gusau, where he obtained his Senior Secondary Certificate in 1998.

He later earned a National Diploma in Public Administration from Kano State Polytechnic in 2013.

In recognition of his contributions to leadership and governance, he received an honorary doctorate from IHERIS University, Togo, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Administrators Institute of Nigeria.

Dr. Turaki has built a strong presence in the private sector.

He is the founder of Hafmoh Energy and Engineering Applications Limited, an oil and gas firm, and serves as Chairman of Alps Global Link Ltd, a company involved in power, construction, and consultancy projects, including major national infrastructure initiatives.

He is also Managing Director of Rukhal Innovations and Construction Services Ltd, Director at Contech Engineering Ltd, and Managing Director of Bitumen Energy and Hydrocarbon Ltd, a company with interests in bitumen blocks in Ondo State.

Over the years, he has been involved in multiple construction, drainage, and dredging projects across Nigeria.

In public service, Dr. Turaki began his career with the Federal Character Commission, serving as an Executive Officer between 2000 and 2005, and later as Acting State Coordinator in Zamfara State. In 2012, he was appointed Director-General of the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, where he led disaster response and humanitarian interventions.

His commitment to humanitarian service is reflected in the establishment of the Turaki Foundation in 2021, through which he has supported hundreds of vulnerable individuals across communities in Zamfara State.

In 2023, he further extended his outreach by distributing food items to residents affected by economic hardship.

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Turaki was a governorship aspirant in 2023 and also served within the Presidential Campaign Council for the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Known for his expertise in strategic leadership, governance, and energy development, he combines technical knowledge with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and is fluent in both English and Hausa.

Recent reports also indicate that he has been nominated for the position of Executive Director, Finance and Supply, at the North West Development Commission, further underscoring his growing influence in both political and administrative circles.

As political activities intensify ahead of 2027, observers say Dr. Turaki’s next steps could significantly shape the direction of Zamfara politics.
