Amaechi joins 2027 presidential race, picks ADC nomination form
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially entered the race for the 2027 presidency after picking up the Presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development was confirmed on Friday after a high-powered delegation led by former Edo State Governor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who chairs the ADC Policy and Manifesto Committee, collected the nomination form on his behalf at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. The delegation also included Senator Abatemi-Usman.
Amaechi, a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and two-term Governor of Rivers State, becomes the second aspirant to formally obtain the party’s presidential form, which reportedly costs ₦90 million.
He joins Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who earlier picked up the nomination form, signaling early momentum within the ADC ahead of its presidential primaries.
The former minister has been vocal about his political priorities, consistently calling for competence in leadership, youth inclusion, and adherence to zoning principles, particularly advocating for a rotation of power to the South.
He has also emphasized the need for urgent reforms in national security, economic management, and infrastructure development as key pillars for Nigeria’s next administration.
Amaechi said his extensive experience in public service, including his time overseeing critical national infrastructure as transport minister, equips him with the capacity to address Nigeria’s complex challenges.
According to him, the country’s problems are well understood, and he possesses the required experience to provide workable solutions if elected president in 2027.
