Anti-Trump protest rocks Kano over CPC designation
Islamic groups in Kano State on Saturday staged a peaceful protest against what they described as a move by United States President Donald Trump to interfere in Nigeria’s internal security affairs.
The demonstrators took to the streets carrying placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources.”
The protest followed Trump’s recent remarks in which he claimed that Christians in Nigeria were facing persecution.
The U.S. president also reportedly listed Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious intolerance and violence targeting Christians.
The protesters dismissed the claims as misleading and politically motivated, accusing the U.S. of attempting to exploit Nigeria’s internal challenges for strategic and economic interests. They also urged the Nigerian government to resist any form of foreign interference in the country’s sovereignty.
The US President subsequently threatened that if the Nigerian government fails to address the killing of Christians, the American military will intervene.
The Nigerian government has since denied the alleged Christian genocide, describing it as false.
