Ex-Ogun NNPP guber candidate, Ajadi, dumps party for PDP
Nigerian politician, businessman, and social reform advocate, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the switch as a “strategic and patriotic step toward rebuilding Nigeria’s unity and hope.”
Ajadi announced his resignation on Monday, November 10, 2025, during a press briefing where he presented copies of his resignation letter to journalists.
The letter was addressed to all levels of the NNPP, from his ward chairman to the national chairman, signalling a complete and deliberate departure from the party.
Explaining the decision, Ajadi said it followed “deep reflection” on Nigeria’s political trajectory and the urgent need to operate within a broader party capable of driving true national transformation.
“My decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party is both strategic and patriotic,” he stated.
“I have great respect for the NNPP and what it stands for, but at this point in Nigeria’s history, the PDP offers a wider and stronger platform for national reconciliation, youth empowerment, and true federalism.”
Ajadi, who served as the NNPP governorship candidate in Ogun State during the 2023 elections after stepping down as a presidential aspirant in support of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stressed that his defection was not borne out of conflict.
“There is no bad blood between me and my former party,” he clarified.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served. But as Nigeria battles economic hardship, unemployment, and leadership challenges, it is time for like-minded patriots to close ranks and rebuild trust in governance.”
Political analysts have described Ajadi’s move as a significant realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, an election cycle expected to trigger major political recalibrations across the country.
Beyond politics, Ajadi is widely recognised for his humanitarian and youth-focused initiatives.
Through the Olufemi Ajadi Foundation, he has offered training, micro-grants, and support to widows, artisans, and farmers across the South-West and beyond.
His advocacy has also championed youth inclusion in governance, entrepreneurship, peaceful coexistence, press freedom, and civic accountability.
“Nigeria is at a crossroads,” he warned.
“We need leaders who listen and act selflessly. I am confident that joining the PDP will strengthen the party’s grassroots base and reawaken hope among ordinary Nigerians.”
PDP officials in the South-West welcomed him warmly, describing Ajadi as “a valuable addition to the PDP’s democratic family” and praising his integrity, mobilisation capacity, and social impact.
Reaffirming his commitment to national service, Ajadi pledged to work with PDP leaders at all levels to deepen transparency, peace-building, and inclusive governance.
“This is not just about party politics,” he said. “It is about rekindling the faith of Nigerians in democracy and ensuring that our people begin to feel the real dividends of good governance.”
