Mass defection hits ADC as 60,000 members join APC in Kebbi
More than 60,000 members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors were formally received on Monday by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the former ADC Coordinator in Jega Local Government Area and former House of Representatives aspirant for the Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Mustapha, said their decision was influenced by the performance of Governor Idris and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Our decision to join the APC was informed by the remarkable achievements of Governor Nasir Idris and the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Mustapha said.
He added that the APC had demonstrated commitment to the welfare of Nigerians and remained a political party with strong grassroots support across the country.
Other representatives of the defectors also commended Governor Idris for his leadership and developmental projects, pledging their loyalty and support to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Responding, Governor Idris welcomed the new members and assured them they would enjoy equal rights and opportunities within the ruling party.
“They will enjoy the same rights, opportunities, and privileges as every other APC member,” the governor said, urging them to remain united and work for the party’s victory in 2027.
Governor Idris also highlighted his administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply, rural development, road construction, as well as youth and women empowerment, assuring residents that his government would continue to deliver the dividends of democracy across Kebbi State.
The event was attended by the acting APC State Chairman, members of the State Executive Council, party leaders and other stakeholders.
