Spain defeat France 2-0 to reach 2026 FIFA World Cup final
Spain have booked their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating France 2-0 in Tuesday’s semi-final at Dallas Stadium.
Luis de la Fuente’s side produced a disciplined and dominant display to overcome a France team packed with attacking talent, securing a deserved victory through goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro.
Spain took the lead midway through the first half after France left-back Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal inside the penalty area while attempting to clear the ball.
Oyarzabal calmly converted the resulting penalty, giving Spain a deserved advantage.
With the lead, Spain tightened their grip on the contest and limited France to very few clear-cut chances.
France were expected to respond after the break, but Spain continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their advantage when Pedro Porro combined brilliantly with Dani Olmo before firing home at the near post.
Despite having more than 30 minutes to mount a comeback, France struggled to break down Spain’s organised defence, which has conceded only one goal throughout the tournament.
Spain comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to seal a place in Sunday’s World Cup final.
The defeat ends France’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final. Les Bleus will now face the losers of the second semi-final in Saturday’s third-place play-off, while head coach Didier Deschamps is set to step down after 14 years in charge following the tournament.
Spain, meanwhile, will travel to New Jersey for the final, where they will face either England or Argentina as they bid to win their second FIFA World Cup title.
